Early Life

Bangladeshi politician Sheikh Hasina was born on September 28, 1947, in Tungipara, Gopalganj district, East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). She is the eldest of five children of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the "Father of the Nation" and the first President of Bangladesh.

Political Career

Sheikh Hasina has played a prominent role in Bangladesh's politics since the early 1980s. She is the current Prime Minister of Bangladesh and the President of the Awami League, the country's oldest and largest political party.

Leader of the Awami League

Sheikh Hasina became the President of the Awami League in 1981 after her father was assassinated. Under her leadership, the party has won several elections and has been in power for the majority of the time since Bangladesh's independence in 1971.

Prime Minister of Bangladesh

Sheikh Hasina has served as Prime Minister of Bangladesh three times: from 1996 to 2001, 2009 to 2014, and from 2014 to the present. During her terms as Prime Minister, she has implemented a number of policies aimed at improving the country's economy, infrastructure, and social welfare.
